The 10th Annual South African Hip Hop Awards returns with a new theme “The Manifesto”
The theme coincides with the South African Local Government Elections of 2021.
After a successful run last year, the 10th installment of the SA Hip Hop Awards (#SAHHA2021) will return with what has been dubbed as "The Manifesto" which is the theme for this year. The show will boast a number of appearances, live performances and tributes by today’s leading musicians within the Hip Hop culture and will be aired on SABC 1 on the 4th of December 2021.
The biggest night in South African Hip Hop will bring a new twist this year as the production team alongside the show sponsors namely SABC 1, Arts Alive, City Of Jo'burg, Stylin' Dredz, Hennessy and the newly formed South African Hip Hop Museum have been working closely with our government officials and after much consideration, due to the COVID-19 pandemic have decided to once again do the show virtually because the health and safety of artists, fans, industry, staff, and partners is of the utmost importance.
Khomotso Ledwaba, brand manager of Hennessy SA, says “Hennessy has long been synonymous with Hip Hop. Ever since first being uttered on a verse, Hennessy has featured in over 2500 songs in one way or another, and has made an indelible mark on the culture. To date, it’s the most mentioned brand not just in hip hop but in the broader music industry as a whole. It remains absolutely interwoven with Hip Hop culture.
Over the years, globally we’ve collaborated with the likes of Rakim, Nas and some of the world’s best-known street artists like KAWS, Vhils, and Shepard Fairey, Faith XLVII. We continue to do so locally, partnering with amazing photographer Jonathan Mannion to shoot local hip hop artists and launching the Hennessy Wall of Fame at the SAHHM to honor the game changers of the culture. We are proud to partner with The South African Hip Hop awards for another year of celebrating amazing talents”.
The South African Hip Hop Awards (SAHHAs) is the year's biggest celebration of Hip Hop on the African continent and this year is no different as it will showcase those who stood above the rest with their artistic innovation and further defined their careers through what has been the toughest year for artists all across the globe. This year's nominees were selected from more than 2 000 submissions across 24 categories, and reflect on the artists that defined the year in South African Hip Hop (15 September 2020 - 15 September 2021). The voting for these nominees will be open from Wednesday, 3rd November 2021 to Friday, 26th November 2021. This year, to celebrate our 10th edition of the event, we’ve decided to add 2 new categories. The two new categories are: Artist of the Decade and Best International Act.
We have 9 categories that are eligible for public votes and these include: Song Of The Year, Best Collabo, Best Video, Best Male, Best Female, Best Radio Show, Best Remix, Artist of the Decade and Best International Act. Online and SMS voting will be open until the 26th of November 2020.
